For some time there has been discussion about how to make Musters more accessible to younger working people who don’t live close to the ‘Muster zone’. The ‘Muster zone’ is an area about 400km long north to south in central western NSW. One solution is to hold regional Mini-Musters in the ‘even years’. Hence the Barossa Mini-Muster, held on the 8th, 9th and 10th of April.

Centre of the action was Angaston Vineyards Motel, as the accommodation and the starting point of the outings.

Saturday was opened with a visit to the the Barossa Farmers Market directly across the road from the Angaston Vineyards Motel. Then we went off to Chateau Tanunda for a line up of the cars up in front of the historic Chateau for a photo opportunity. We enjoyed a tour of the restored barrel/tasting room and grounds which included a glass of either Shiraz or Riesling to enjoy during the tour.

Lunch was at the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company where we didn’t only tast a sumptuous lunch but also had the opportunity to sample chocolates. It was very had to resist.

After lunch, some of us went back to the motel and collapsed after the over indulgances to be ready for the dinner at the Wanera Wine Bar and Restaurant.

Whispering Wall all ears

Sunday we were visiting the Whispering Wall near Williamstown where we tested the wispering.

Then came the second treat of the muster, the visit to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood. Suffice to say that we almost missed lunch for looking at all the interesing exhibits.

Lunch at Birdwood

Monday morning was saying good bye until Moama for some.

Cars at Norseman

A group of brave drivers were heading west towards the unknown under the watchful eye of John Waterhouse. Exploring the Nullarbor and coast was on the agenda.

They all made it to the west coast, to Steff’s BBQ room, a good bed and some exploration of delights of Perth.

Finally some rest and recovery
